LANDSCAPE PECULIARITIES OF NORTH VERKOR - THE FRENCH PRE-ALPS

Landscape forming and development of the North Verkor is in close relation with its geographical situation by the seas and with a distinct vertical zonality of the physical geographical conditions. On the basis of some personal observations, mapping and literary studies, a few landscape types could be distinguished in Verkor: of submediterranean low-mountain woods, mountain woods wiht a moderate humidity, highmountain meadows and mountain woodless rocks.

These landscape types themselves could be subdivided into type-varieties and groups, taking into consideration the different physical geographical conditions, illustrated by vegetation and geological fundament peculiarities. The article clarifies the vertical and horizontal structure of lanscape types and type-varieties. At the same time attention is paid to the human activities, having influenced its changes. The author emphasizes as well the necessity of complex landscape massif investigations in view of its rapid economic assimilation which has caused considerable modifications in the massif's landscape structure.
