PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHICAL ASPECTS OF THE PROJECT FOR TRANSFERRING PART OF THE SIBERIAN RIVER RUN-OFF TO THE SOUTH.

The enormous water resources in the USSR are irregularly distributed from a spatial point of view between the south and north regions. A project suggested water transferring of the Siberian rivers Ob and Enisei to the Middle Asia and Kazakhstan. According to it, a redistribution of river run-off in the so called „Middle region of the Soviet Union“ (7 000 000 km² area) is expected to be done, which will be of great importance in the field of economy. During the first stage 25 km³ of water annually are planned to be transferred from the Ob and Irtish rivers while at the next stage — 100 km³ roughly (including the Enisei river). Water redistribution along with the changes of technical appliance location will modify considerably the natural complexes of the West Siberia and Middle Asia. So as to minimize the adverse consequences and to improve the natural conditions, a profound analysis of the physical geographical processes in the Middle region is needed.
