The Bulgarian Geographical Society and the National University Center for Geospatial Research and Technologies at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” are pleased to invite researchers, lecturers, experts, and early-career scientists to participate in the International Conference "Changing Climate, Changing Geographies: Shaping the New Geospatial Reality" dedicated to the spatial dimensions of climate change and the transformations of contemporary geographical reality.

The conference will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, from 24 to 26 September 2026.

Further information for abstract submission is available at the conference website: https://bgsconference.com/

Conference concept

Climate change is a global phenomenon, but its impacts are manifested through specific territorial, spatial, and geosystem contexts—cities, coastlines, mountain regions, rural areas, and regions with varying socio-economic vulnerability. These territories are undergoing profound physical, environmental, and functional transformations, while simultaneously becoming the focus of political, economic, and governance decisions related to climate adaptation and resilience.

The concept of a “new geospatial reality” reflects the dynamic reconfiguration of natural and social systems under changing climatic conditions. The conference aims to position geography as an integrative and interdisciplinary platform, in which climate change is understood as a complex geospatial process reshaping territorial structures, spatial interactions, and functional relations within geosystems.
By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and methodological pluralism, the forum seeks to contribute to the development of innovative analytical frameworks and practical solutions adequate to the challenges of a changing climate and changing geographies.
