STRUCTURE OF ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

B. Kolev

Summary

As it is well known the term ‘information’ is one of the most widely spread in contemporary scientific knowledge.

Proceeding from the opinion that the information in economic geography is of great importance for its theory and practice, this work aims to make an attempt to clarify its inner structure.

From our point of view the term ‘economic geographical information’ should be considered as a total system (multitude), comprising information, signals and data about state, connections and interrelations between:

  • the elements in economic geographical systems,
  • the separate economic geographical systems and
  • the economic geographical systems and the media within the limits of which they exist and function, reflecting on subject’s consciousness.

The system (multitude) ‘economic geographical information’ consists of four main information subsystems (physical geographical, economic social and other information). On the other hand they themselves may be considered as systems. Naturally, we can say that among the indicated elements, a precise and equal in size correlation does not be able to.

Depending on the aims, set up before each economic geographical investigation, one information element out of the above mentioned, may prevail at the expense of the others.
